The city of tomorrow plays a decisive role in climate change and opens up new opportunities to develop urban spaces for the future. This requires innovative concepts for housing, construction, mobility, energy, communication, entertainment, security and much more.
The Futuromundo Foresight Conference offers participants the opportunity to familiarise themselves with ambitious visions and innovative business models for the city of tomorrow. The Future Urban Economies Forum is organised by the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO and will take place on 3 July 2025 in Stuttgart's Liederhalle. Internationally renowned experts will provide insights into visionary perspectives and approaches for finding innovative solutions to the economic and social challenges of the future.
In many places, new concepts are already being developed to improve coexistence in cities. The mobility of the future plays an important role in this. For example, the German government's new pedestrian traffic strategy has just been launched. It sets a clear signal for pedestrian-friendly road traffic and emphasises equal rights for all road users.
Innovations for the city of tomorrow affect all residents. The example of the 15-minute city of Paris shows that the quality of life in a residential area improves significantly when important infrastructure facilities are within walking distance for many people. Car traffic is reduced, the search for a parking space is eased, there is more space on paths and squares, the quality of life increases and offers more opportunities for contact in the neighbourhood.
A well-functioning public transport system also relieves the burden on cities. The University of Konstanz has developed an interactive map that shows how well connected every house in Germany is. It enables fact-based simulations for political issues - or simply helps you to assess your own neighbourhood. The interactive map is freely accessible on the Internet at mobility.dbvis.de.
