Increasingly high temperatures in summer can put a strain on health. People in large cities with few green spaces and parks are particularly affected. If you can't go to the seaside in summer, you need reliable heat protection.

Light, air and sun are our elixir of life. But on summer days, it can get too hot even in northern Europe. When there's nowhere cool to go outside, it's important to equip your own flat or house so that the indoor temperature remains pleasant.

The roof plays an important role in thermal insulation. This applies not only in winter, when the heat should remain in the house, but also in summer. Then the roof must be well insulated to prevent the summer heat from penetrating the house. When renovating a roof, the insulation of the roof surfaces is the top priority, but the type of windows and shading options also play an important role.

Large window areas under the roof are nice, but can heat up the rooms below without sun protection. If you don't want to do without daylight, but want to keep the heat out of the living spaces, heat protection awnings with transparent fabric are ideal. Their translucent fabric keeps the sun's energy-rich rays away from the window pane. All-round protection for roof windows is provided by roof window roller shutters. They not only keep the attic cool and darken it completely, but also protect against noise.

If better insulation of the house and simple sun protection on the windows are no longer sufficient, air conditioning units can be a solution. Stiftung Warentest tests the most popular models every year. They cost between 700 and well over 2000 euros. However, not all of them cool efficiently, reports Stiftung Warentest in its magazine Test. The electricity costs also vary greatly depending on the appliance. Split and monobloc appliances were tested. The last three tests (6/24, 5/23 and 6/22) were purely split appliances, as the efficiency of monobloc appliances is very low.
